Dear Friends of SCU Archives & Special Collections,
Congratulations to the Class of 2024!
Now that classes are winding down, you might be thinking about firing up your summer research projects and visiting the archives. Please reach out to us if you are interested in spending some time in our reading room this summer and using our collections for your research projects. We’re happy to help you navigate our collections!
Reading Room Hours for Spring 2024
Finals week (June 10-14) will be by appointment only. Starting June 17th, we will have reduced hours for summer: Monday through Friday 10 am to 3 pm. Please remember that we need time to retrieve materials from the vault for your visit, so try to email us 2-3 days in advance for a research appointment at specialcollections@scu.edu
We are already booking classes for Fall Quarter, so please reach out early to request teaching support! The schedule fills quickly and we need several weeks notice to prepare a new class. We are happy to work with instructors to teach students about using primary sources, archives, rare books and other special collections materials with workshop or visit to the reading room.
New A&SC Staff
Bess Pittman (she/her/hers), Archivist
Please join us in welcoming our new archivist, Bess Pittman! Bess has her MSI from the University of Michigan. She worked at NYU and Virginia Tech as an archivist before coming to Santa Clara University in April of 2024. She lives in San Jose with her partner and two very silly dogs. In her free time, she does too many hobbies. Feel free to reach out to her (epittman@scu.edu) with any burning archival questions, or if you need a crafting buddy.
Student Assistant News
Pooja Gona, M.S. & Aditya Patni, M.S.
Congratulations to A&SC student assistants Pooja Gona and Aditya Patni on their graduation from the Santa Clara University’s Master of Computer Science and Engineering Program! It has been a pleasure working with both Pooja and Aditya over the past year and we are looking forward to seeing what their futures bring!
Ukeme Abasi Bassey & Mansi Sharma
Congratulations to A&SC student assistants Ukeme Abasi Bassey and Mansi Sharma, who are both moving on to the next phase of their Masters in Counseling Psychology Program and beginning internships in the fall! Mansi will be leaving at the end of this quarter and Ukeme will be here through the summer. We are sure that their kindness and patience will be greatly appreciated by their clients and we wish them success in all their future endeavors.
Summer Exhibit Coming Soon!
Archives & Special Collections Librarian Monica Keane will be curating a summer exhibit in the gallery cases from mid June through August. The exhibit, Shakespeare in the Park, will feature nature imagery in our fine press editions of Shakespeare.
